The Tourism Diversification and Resilience in The Gambia Project strives to enhance the engagement and value contribution of Tourism Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) in selected destinations. This will be achieved through the creation of a dynamic supply chain structure, facilitating the exchange of technology, knowledge, and skills, and enhancing business practices, management, and market access for MSMEs. This integration is aimed at ensuring their sustainable involvement in established tourism value chains and end-markets in The Gambia.
Any journey of transformation begins with a clear comprehension of the landscape, and this project is no exception. Prior to its commencement, a pivotal preparatory phase took center stage – the Tourism MSME Data Collection and Ecosystem Analysis. This intensive process delved into the sector's intricacies, unearthing both challenges and opportunities that lie on the horizon.
The study is a wellspring of insights that illuminate the project's trajectory. The empirical data gathered casts light on crucial aspects – from the demographics of MSME owners to business locales, historical operations, potential intermediary institutions, and key considerations for a matching grant scheme. By zooming in on areas rich with tourism-related MSMEs, the project aims to precisely target interventions for maximal impact.
The report of the Tourism MSME Data Collection and Ecosystem Analysis was validated in an event held on May 26, 2023. The completion and validation of the Tourism MSME Data Collection and Ecosystem Analysis study in The Gambia signifies a pivotal milestone. The knowledge distilled from this study will underpin the project's implementation, grounded in evidence-based strategies.
To date, the development of a matching grant manual has been completed. The study's findings within the technical report play a vital role in shaping the content of specific sections of this manual. With empirical insights, validated reports, and a shared vision, the project stands ready to introduce a new era characterized by growth and resilience.
